Led by District 1 County Supervisor Gloria Molina, the L.A. Board of Supervisors has passed new restrictions that will effectively eliminate taco trucks from our streets. Under Supervisor Molina’s new rules, taco trucks will have to change location every hour, or face a misdemeanor charge carrying a $1000 fine and/or jail. Yes, jail. Taco Trucks are a special facet of Los Angeles, and something we don’t want to lose. Though this ordinance currently affects just unincorporated parts of L.A., that’s 65% of the County. And of course it opens up the doors for legislation closer to home too. Let’s send Gloria Molina and the L.A. Board of Supervisors a message that we cherish our local vendors and don’t want to see them move away. This new law needs to be repealed!  SIGN THE PETITION!

I understand that it is "illegal", but don't we have a hierarchy of what is truly abhorrent criminal activity. Why is Elvira working with a fake SSI card worse than "legal" born in the USA gangsters that run our streets selling drugs and killing? Why is Elvira's crime worse than White Collar Crime that has symbolized the Bush Presidency? I live near MacArthur Park in LA, home to a lot of new immigrant families. I am witness everyday to young men selling MICAS (Spanish slang for laminated ID cards), holding their hands in the shape of a card. These cards can be fake SSI cards or California driver’s license, from 20 to 100 bucks. These guys do this in the open, and I have never seen or heard of cops stopping these guys. When early European Immigrants came to the USA, there was no bureaucracy or rules. Today, new immigrants face harsher rules and more racist attitudes toward immigrants than ever before. I am sick of hearing "they are taking my job"!! I don't see many USA born lining up to pick vegetables or clean toilets. The root of this problem is still EUROPEAN RACIST ATTITUDES toward "OTHERS". I read a great book Unthinking Eurocentrism
that brings to light such thinking as - "The colonizer is the rescuer, saving both the colonized land and the Western female threatened by the "polygamous Arabs, libidinous Blacks, and macho Latinos". I am personally affected by all this , as my best friends are all of "illegal" status. They are all hard working decent people who have never broken any laws, except crossing the border. They all happen to be Latino, which means they do not get special treatment like Armenian, Asians, and other groups new to the USA. My friends have been turned down for jobs because of their status, and can't even legally drive. I also wish other USA born Latinos like myself would be more sympathetic toward our brown brothers and sisters new to the USA. I have seen first hand that KKK thinking white people will be quick to lump me in with the new Latino immigrant. I have actually been witness to a white lady telling my mom and uncle to go back to Mexico. My family has been in the USA for more generations than most European Immigrants. I have digressed and gone all over the place, but what I am trying to say is we are at a very big crossroads in America. It is US vs THEM mentality and people are taking sides. I have picked my side and I say bring it on! VIVA ZAPATA! VIVA USA!! I MUST ALSO SAY GAY IMMIGRANTS GOT IT WORSE.  I would love to marry one of my friends to get them legal status, but we don't even have that right.
