I'm doing my best to keep this on my Politics blog: http://www.thecamilopost.com but when I see distortions or slanted implications out there, I have to speak the Truth. Sorry if you don't want to see it here but EVERY TIME I see an Obama Distortion on MySpace, I will respond on MySpace, like it or not. So...people are going to "caution the gente" about voting for Obama because he is not for gay marriage. Neither is Hillary Clinton. So should we be cautious about her? Let's get it right.... (I'm only posting this cuz someone is making it like Obama is the only one not supporting gay marriage. Obama and Hillary's stance on the issues are identical...except he is consistent, unlike Hillary!)

She also goes on to talk about ending Dont Ask Dont Tell, and giving the states the right to decide on gay marriage. How IRONIC IS THAT!!! What do the FACTS tell us??? *Lets first start with the disaster called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." The Clinton administration sold out the GLBT community and decided that Washington politics was more important than our Civil Rights. The very nature of the law undermines everything for which the GLBT movement stands. As we have realized, we took two steps forward and three steps back. *The signature that stepped on our face, threw us in a dumpster, then pissed on us, The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) signed by Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996. What is interesting about the date is dear old Bill had already been re-elected, so that couldn't have been a fear when he signed the bill. The law reads as follows, "No State, territory, or possession of the United States, or Indian tribe, shall be required to give effect to any public act, record, or judicial proceeding of any other State, territory, possession, or tribe respecting a relationship between persons of the same sex that is treated as a marriage under the laws of such other State, territory, possession, or tribe, or a right or claim arising from such relationship." What this means is that if one state allows gay marriage, the others don't have to recognize it. Now, the Constitution requires that all states recognize each other's marriages, but DOMA says that this part of the Constitution just doesn't apply to gay folks. The US will recognize a marriage of some child bride sold to her husband in Saudi Arabia, but it won't recognize the marriage of a gay couple in Boston. DOMA was the worst possible thing that could have happened in Washington, short of a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage. The thing is, an Amendment isn't really needed to ban gay marriage (a Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage is in itself unconstitutional as it interferes with states 'rights. States, not the federal government, have control over marriage) So, some of you may be saying, "Well, what Bill did really sucks, but that wasn't Hillary's fault." That argument just doesn't hold water with me. If you are going to say that you have 35 years of experience fighting for change, and you list your duties in the Clinton administration as part of your experience, than every slap in the face delivered from Bill was delivered by every member of the administration. I wouldn't hold it against her if she was trying to separate herself from the Clinton administration, but this is clearly NOT the case. The Clinton administration did more harm to the GLBT community than the Bush administration. Just look at the facts, look at the law. So, if you are a member of this struggling community, just wanting the same thing that everyone else has, remember how the Clinton administration sold you out not once, but twice. Why will as second one be any different? *Hillary only speaks about the LGBT Community when at Gavin Newsom fundraisers. Or on LOGO. In front of the gay people. Barack Obama courageously mentions our existence since his landmark 2004 keynote address at the Democratic National Convention, or at a Church where he chastised the Black community for their homphobia! When is the last time Hillary Clinton chastised churchgoers for their homophobia??? *His years as a legislator in Illinois show NO malice toward us. Barack Obama supported gay rights during his Illinois Senate tenure. He sponsored legislation in Illinois that would ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. *He is on record in 1996 as being against DOMA and supports it's FULL REPEAL, where Hillary only supports a partial repeal. Obama has shown consistency in his support for LBGT People. Hillary Clinton has shown the same election year lip speak we get from all politicians.
